Horse Eddie

This is me and Eddie on a cross-country course, early 1980s. His first few years as a performance horse were spent mostly at 3-phase events in Massachusets. He liked it, but his destiny lay elsewhere.

Here Eddie is competing in his first of many competetive trail rides at Green Mountain Horse Association (GMHA) in Woodstock, VT. This was his first 25 mile ride.

Eddie was a natural at competetive trail riding. This was his first GMHA 50 mile, early 1980s.

In the summer of 1991, Eddie moved out to Colorado with me. He was not happy. He pined for Vermont. So after one summer in Vail, he moved back to VT and I decided to spend winters in Vail without him, and summers in VT.

In the mid-1990s Eddie was injured after a 100 mile race and was retired from long distance trail riding. He had a lot of life left in him so we decided he would learn to drive. He loved pulling a carriage! This photo was taken at a GMHA combined driving competition.

In the summer of 2001, Eddie was festooned in roses and pulled a carriage at my sister's wedding.

This is Eddie with his pasture-mate Jay, living the good life at Wintookit Farm in Rutland, VT, where he has been since 2003. My friends there take great care of Eddie. He is treated like royalty in an assisted living facility for aging equines. He is retired now but still enjoys trail riding and having fun cavorting around Wintookit farm.
